Information on Pool and Spa Installation and Maintenance

An Inside Look at the Unseen Beauty of Fine Pool Construction

Attention to detail throughout the construction process is the key to building a durable, long-lasting pool.

When most homeowners think about choosing a pool, the first thing they consider are its location, size and shape, decking and landscaping. Those are the things that are easy to see. However, the things that can’t be seen are some of the most important elements that make for a truly sound and beautiful pool – inside and out.

Once the pool is finished, you can’t see the hands of the skilled craftsman who built it – but you can see the effects of their work. The first step to true inner beauty for your pool is to make sure the team that works on your pool consists of the finest skilled craftsmen – people who have years of experience and who take pride in the work.

The “bones” of your pool are critically important in making sure you get years of enjoyment out of your investment. Having extra-thick walls and floors will make your pool stronger. Using heavy gauged reinforced steel throughout the entire pool will strengthen the inner structure.

The “shotcrete” mixture used for the pool will add many years of maintenance- free enjoyment. Once the concrete is shot, it should be sweat-cured for at least seven days. Rizzo Pool does this for you – we don’t ask you to do it. For the finish, a diamond-coat finish will provide a stronger, harder and whiter surface.

All fittings protruding through the walls and floor of the pool are Betonite-wrapped. It protects and waterproofs the fittings as per APSP recommendations.

The plumbing techniques used to build your pool are important for keeping your pool working efficiently and properly for years to come. Having double main drains will stop entrapment and make for better, safer circulation. The main drain should have a separate line to the filter. A bronze hydrostatic relief valve also helps to prevent floatation. Rizzo Pool is the only pool company in Connecticut that guarantees that your pool will never float out of the ground.

The materials used in your pool’s accessories should not be overlooked. Don’t accept plastic as a substitute for stainless-steel ladders, stair threads and escutcheons. All anchors should be manufactured from bronze, not plastic or aluminum.

The size of the filtration system also is important. A larger filtration system is more efficient and needs less cleaning. Rizzo Pool oversizes all of the filter plants, giving you longer filtration runs between cleaning.

Coordinating all the elements that will make your pool perfect in every respect takes a team of dedicated craftsmen who share the same high standards. Make sure the pool company you choose has that dedicated team on staff – not subcontractors. This will help ensure consistent quality throughout your project.
